Consultation with Children and Young People with SEND
Teachers/SENCO and support staff identify where provision is required. Provision is planned and interventions are allocated to individual needs. The children take an active role with setting their targets, discussing them with the class teacher/ support staff.
The children are closely monitored by staff and asked to give their views about their own progress.
Parents/ carers are able to talk to their child’s teacher and also support staff at times to discuss progress. Termly parents meetings are held and further meetings may be arranged when needed.
Consultation with parents and carers of children and young people with SEND
Our school has an ‘open door’ policy for parents to visit when needed. Staff are friendly and approachable and listen to parent/s / carer’s concerns and views.
There is a range of ways this can be done, for example:
- Termly parents/ carers evenings;
- Ongoing discussions with a class teacher and/or SENCO;
- An ‘open-door’ policy, where parents and carers are welcome to come into school to discuss any concerns they may have;
- Through a review of a child’s SEN Support Plan or the Annual Review of their Statement of SEN or EHC Plan.
For children with the highest level of support / need, the school and everyone involved with the child, will be invited to a special meeting – the ‘ Annual Review’ – this will be a time for everyone to review the child’s progress and plan together for future needs and support.
The government has asked all LA ‘s in the UK to publish, in one place, information about the services and provision they expect to be available in their area for children from 0 – 25 who have SEND.
At Ingleton Church of England School we are committed to the equal inclusion of all pupils in all areas of school life. We recognise the diverse and individaul needs of our pupils and take into account the additional support required by those children with SEND.
If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment.
