Design and Technology Curriculum Statement
INTENT
Design and Technology is a fascinating subject that allows children to engage and improve their practical and design skills. Our curriculum allows children to learn how to make a range of products that could be used in their everyday lives or their local community, to learn how to evaluate their work, to use observation, to think critically when planning their designs and to learn how to use a range tools for construction.
IMPACT
The Design and Technology curriculum at Ingleton C of E Primary School is thoroughly planned and executed to ensure a continuous progression of skills throughout the students Primary Education. If children are keeping up with the curriculum, they are deemed to be making good or better progress.
In addition, we measure the impact of our curriculum through the following methods:
- A reflection on standards achieved against the planned outcomes.
- Challenge questions to secure the students learning.
- Pupil discussions about their learning, which includes discussion of their thoughts, ideas, processing and evaluations of work.
- Students personal evaluation and presentation of their work.
IMPLEMENTATION
All of the teachers follow the learning challenge curriculum to plan their Design and Technology lessons. As part of this planning process, teachers need to plan the following:
- A knowledge organiser which outlines knowledge (including vocabulary) all children must master.
- A cycle of lessons for each subject, which carefully plans for progression and depth.
- Challenge questions for pupils to apply their learning and understand their focus.
- A means to display and celebrate the pupils’ DT work in their class.
